Join over 200 people from across Derby to create a human wave in a once in a life time event!

One Moon is a unique Derby Festé commission taking place on Friday 27 September 2019 to celebrate the diversity in our city.

Accompanied by movement, circus and beautiful music the spectacular human chain will connect the Museum of the Moon at Derby Cathedral to the River Derwent through Cathedral Green. One Moon reminds us that, no matter who we are and where we come from, we live together as human beings on one planet under one moon. We are all part of the unbreakable connection between the moon, tides and humanity.

The wave is being choreographed by our Artistic Director Jen Sumner who has been working with Designer Maria Terry and Visual Artist Theresa Hempsall to create something incredible for Derby Festé and the city.

We are also delighted to be working with musicians Tadeusz Palosz (hang pan), Fran Loze (cello) who will play in the cathedral and Jude Winwood and the BeatFeet team who will be drumming on Cathedral Green #DjembeFever.

We are looking for volunteers to join the human wave. There will be a simple movement that will be repeated to music and a model moon will be passed along the wave. Anyone interested in becoming part of the human wave can learn the simple choreography in advance with their friends and family by watching this short film clip taken during a rehearsal.

Participants are also invited to wear blue, white and silver clothes and to make a ‘space, moon and tides’ inspired headpiece or badge to wear. You can find some craft ideas in the attached One Moon Pack or you can make your own. The Pack also provides a breakdown of the choreography for the wave movements as well.

Workshop for volunteers to support the wave are being held on Wednesday 25 September from 4.30pm – 6.00pm at Déda and everyone is welcome. Please let us know in advance if you’re planning on attending by contacting Jen on [email protected], or calling: 01332 374 665.

Other workshops are available for schools and organisations to take part in the wave, these are limited so please contact Jen ASAP on the details above if you would like to get involved.

This is an amazing opportunity to be part of a very unique experience and celebrate the diversity in our city. Meet us in the Cathedral at 6.00pm, where there will be live music and a performance from Hubbub Theatre Company. Everyone will be directed into the human wave from the Cathedral.

It’s also the perfect time to enjoy more FREE Full Moon Friday Events at Derby Festé, you can find the schedule here.

We look forward to welcoming you to the wave!
