Hubbub Theatre Company is delighted to be the recipients of the Derby Festé Commission 2018, to create a new piece of street theatre for the annual international outdoor festival which will take place in the city over the last weekend of September.
The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness has been inspired by the company’s research into the impact of Random Acts of Kindness (RAKtivism). It will be a military clown operation to spread kindness with a ‘pay it forward’ message.
The piece will be directed our Artistic Director Jen Sumner, with movement direction from Catherine Boot (Can’t Sit Still, Circomedia) and an original soundtrack composed by Matt Marks.
We’re looking to work with 2 physical performers with excellent skills in tumbling, acrobatics or parkour. These performers will also need excellent devising and improvisation skills, bucket loads of playfulness and mischief, and experience or an interest in working collaboratively with actors with moderate learning disabilities who are part of the company’s first year of actor training programme, LaunchPad.
The 2 performers will work alongside the learning disabled trainee actors in 2 stages:
- R&D process culminating in a scratch of the work on 22 June 2018 at Hubbub’s LaunchPad event at Déda, Derby. This event will share the approaches to devising and the training process of the first year which has involved working with Gecko, Told By An Idiot and Can’t Sit Still, who will be part of the event.
- Rehearsal process to develop the work for performance at Festé on Saturday 29 September 2018.
