The Revolution has begun – well at least the rehearsals have resumed after our summer break. We’re one week in already and The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness is really coming together. We’re working with a host of wonderful artists on this project, so we thought this might be a great opportunity to meet some of the team and learn a little about why they got involved.

Joining our wonderful actor trainees are professional physical theatre performers Rosy Roberts and Matt WoodCat Boot, one of our course tutors and Artistic Director of Can’t Sit Still Theatre Company will be the show’s Movement Director, Sound and Music will be Composed by Matt Marks, the show’s Designer is Maria Terry, our Craftivist and Workshop Leader is Rebecca Harvey-Hobbs and of course direction will come from our Artistic Director,  Jen Sumner.

We managed to grab a few minutes out of today’s rehearsals to chat to Maria Terry our designer, here’s what she had to say:

What drew you to want to join Hubbub on The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness

I loved the idea of a revolution based on kindness – there should be more of them! – and the opportunity to inject Derby city centre with a burst of colour and a contrast between a punky, loud protest portraying a kind and thoughtful message.

  • What is the one best thing about working with Hubbub?

The uncensored, boundless creativity, energy and teamwork that comes from every rehearsal. It really influences me in every design process I undertake with Hubbub.

  • What are you looking forward to most on the performance day of The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness at Derby Festé?

To see the visuals of the parade and performance come to life after being nearly a year in the making, and see how the audiences respond and interact with it!

  • Give us your favourite #RandomActofKindness slogan.

It has to be the ‘official’ slogan of the TNSQROK: ‘Kindness can change the world’. I’m thinking of getting it tattooed because it’s ingrained in my head forever after writing it out multiple times during the design process – I also really believe in its message!

We’re still looking for RAKtivists to help Derby become awash with sunflowers on the lead up to our performance of The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness at Derby Festé on Saturday 29 September 2018. If you’re interested in finding out more you can download your FREE Hubbub Sunflower Revolution Craft Pack here and call or email us in the Hubbub office on:

Performances on Saturday 29 September begin at 1.30pm3.30pm and 5.00pm. Starting at Derby Cathedral the promenade show will makes it way to Derby’s Market Place and the performance will conclude on and around the city’s famous Waterfall Stage. You can expect to see our integrated ensemble of physical theatre performers with and without learning disabilities, delight with a display of colour, movement and a motif of physicality, acrobalance and circus accompanied by original, live music.
