Actor Training

A unique opportunity for adults with moderate learning disabilities who are passionate about performance, enthusiastic, ready to work hard and who want to be part of a team.

Our actor training programme offers a unique opportunity for adults, 18 year+ with learning disabilities who are interested in performance and want to develop key skills, such as movement, creating characters, stage presence and focus.

Our members will have the opportunity to work with leading theatre companies, in respected venues and to become part of the professional touring ensemble, Hubbub Theatre Company.

As well as developing their performance skills our actors will also learn to work as part of a team and build their confidence and communication skills. They will develop self-discipline, build resilience in problem solving and grow in independence, as well as have fun and make new friends.

Take a look at the films below which show what our actors have learnt and achieved in the first year of the actor training programme we have offered. There is a full film and a short trailer too.

LaunchPad ‘Exploring the Space in Between’ | Friday 22 June 2018

In June 2018 our LaunchPad event saw our project partners Told by an Idiot and Can’t Sit Still join us for a day of devised integrated physical theatre, exploring the ‘Space in Between’ learning disabled and non-disabled performance.

In November 2017 we established an actor training model for performers with learning disabilities which develops a collaborative working approach to enable all kinds of professional theatre makers to work together. The LaunchPad event, which was held at Déda, was created to share our findings to date.

The event was a huge success, with sixty performers, theatre makers, producers and creatives from across the country joining us for the day to learn about Hubbub, our technique and philosophy and celebrate the success of the first year of our actor training programme, as well as enjoying a scratch performance of The (not so) Quiet Revolution of Kindness.

Here’s a film and a few images showcasing the day…
