Hubbub Theatre in Derby has announced the recipients of Artists Bursaries and Artist Residencies awarded as part of their Dance Development project, which is funded by Arts Council England. Three bursary funding awards towards development training for underrepresented dance or movement artists based in Derby or Derbyshire and two Artist Residencies to share work as part of Hubbub’s programme have been selected.
Artist Bursaries have been offered to: Freya Davis, Samara Brooks and Kim Bormann. Freya Davis is a freelance dance artist whose practice is rooted in contemporary dance in performance, alongside teaching and facilitation in schools and community settings. Freya founded Move & Connect C.I.C., offering inclusive movement for young people and older adults. Samara Brooks is a Creative Arts, Health and Wellbeing practitioner. Samara’s work is guided by the values of creativity, confidence and community; using movement, drama and music to create inclusive experiences to support wellbeing, self-expression and making meaningful connections. Kim Bormann is a Chinese-German heritage dance artist, facilitator and performer, her work combines movement and creative exploration with objects and spaces to create experiences supporting well-being, creativity, and meaningful connection.
Artist Residencies have been offered to: MSC Dance and Clowndance Seagrass Project. Both companies will be working in a co-creative approach with Hubbub groups during the Autumn.
Hubbub Theatre’s Dance Development Project, funded by Arts Council England, aims to support professional dance and movement artists teachers or practitioners using movement, dance and theatre to develop their inclusive practice and diverse leadership through mentoring and establishing professional inclusive practice. Inclusive practice CPD sessions continue at Chapel Street Arts in the Autumn, starting with Usha Mahenthiralingham on 15th September.
